Default Prophecies Hardmode playthrough

Hey guys,

So I'm looking for input as to how to do a complete Hard Mode play through for prophecies. I want to use ONLY prophecies gear/skills/professions. Anyone ever tried anything like this before?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules:

1.) level a character to 20 in pre-searing so you can hit "Hard Mode" the second you reach Ascalon city.

2.) Use only Henchman or Mercenaries with ONLY prophecies skills

3.) Clean out stash completely. No Money or mats.

4.) No trading with players. (all vendors are okay)

Things I'm considering and want input on.

1.) Full suit of max armor for my character and one max weapon set. (I guess I would run them, which sort of stinks since I'd love to have all outposts locked) I'm thinking if I don't do this the one shots will just ruin me out of the gate.

2.) starting without runes for myself or mercenaries (if using mercs).

3.) One profession specific skill tome that I can buy a prophecies skill with upon reaching AC.

the goal

Beat Prophecies campaign.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've pretty much soured on Gw2 and this idea has me excited about Gw1 one again so any encouragment / ideas you guys have would be greatly appreciated

if you can get a taxi to consulate docks, you can take olias, as olias is a necro from kryta
you'd have to enter NF, but ignore it for the rest

run to LA, kamadan and cons docks would get you olias and merc heroes
i have 1 of each non core prof which does have its own prof's skills, but stay in proph and eotn (since its same map, and story linked), and only have done istan stuff and shing jea, for events (dragon festival, wintersday etc)
the sin and rit get the zen daijun Z for easy z coins (1 pet killed = vq)

i dont do it as strictly as you do, but olias counts as a proph hero imo
and i do it for fun, not challenge or anything

if you dont wanna enter any other campaign. get a run to LA for merc heroes if you use them, and then travel back and walk the whole thing

i wouldnt go for survivor, as you are strict already

"upon reaching AC" whats AC?

That sounds like a lot of fun, I might try something like this in the future. It's up to you how you want to complete your challenge but since you're asking for input I'll tell you what I think.

If you want the FULL prophecies-only experience, I'd say just start out with what armor and weapons you have once you enter post searing. You can buy armor as you progress through the game but you won't have max armor until you reach Droknar's Forge, just like how it was back in the day. You only get to use the weapons you find along the way.

It seems more fun and challenging playing it with just the mercenaries and no heroes since heroes were not available in prophecies, but that's just me. Also, if you get runes in pre-searing use those but otherwise you're starting from fresh, only equipped with whatever you managed to get in pre-searing.

I'll say the same thing down here as the other two. If you don't naturally get an item from playing through prophecies I'd say it would be more fun to play without it in order to get the full prophecies-only experience. That's just my opinion though, it sounds like a lot of fun either way. Good luck and have fun, wouldn't mind seeing updates on how you're doing with it

ac is ascalon city

OP, you can get run to LA and then get over to kaineng city for quick max armor, that way you havent unlocked too many cities/outposts. No runes is good--since you wont have any negatives you wont need to many positives (you can get runes as items drop--that would be ok--but only what would drop in low level areas so no superior runes). And when you get drops you will probably also get a few max items so you could just use what drops instead of picking anything up until then.
Skills...really depends on your profession, eles could probably do ok as well as necro, rangers would be hard pressed as would monks....would have to look back at what skills you get along the way in prophecies (I am assuming you would be able to get the skills that would be unlocked for the quests given along the way).

sounds like it would be hard, but not un-doable! Good luck!

Frogman....I think that it would be hard not to have level 20 armor in hard mode with foes that are level 28 and up so max armor I dont see as an issue.

Yeah that's true, since it is in hard mode. I'm not sure how max armor is possible without unlocking any outposts. Maybe just what you suggested is best with getting run to LA then going to Kaineng Center. Could just try it with Ascalon armor at first just to see, but you're probably right it's too difficult for HM without max armor.

This is definitely something best done in a full human party, with heroes/mercs as stand ins. I would consider traps for one player or merc. Dust Trap comes to mind, blinding your melee attackers while you focus on the spell casters.

Also remember that while you don't use any elite skills, many of your enemy will. Plague Devourer comes in abundance and they use Virulence. If you go with hench/hero/merc it's likely they all get hit with Poison/Disease for -8 health degen. With human players at least you can try spread out much more easily. I suggest you try out with a group of 4 already at lvl 20 using only Prophecies skills to Vanquish Old Ascalon.
